Students of Seven Colleges Protest for Quick Implementation of 'Dhaka Central University Act-2025'

Students from seven government colleges staged a protest on Monday (October 13) in front of the Education Building in the capital, demanding the swift implementation of the 'Dhaka Central University Act-2025.' Police were on high alert around the protest area, with armored vehicles and water cannons deployed at the barricades.

Starting at 11 a.m., students from Shahid Sohrawardy College and Kobi Nazrul Government College marched and gathered in front of the Education Building. Later, students from Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Bangla College, and Government Titumir College also joined the protest. The students stated that they would not leave the streets until their demands were met.

On March 26 this year, the government announced the formation of a new university by separating the seven government colleges in the capital. The University Grants Commission (UGC) named the new university ‘Dhaka Central University.’ The colleges involved are: Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Shahid Sohrawardy College, Kobi Nazrul Government College, Mirpur Bangla College, and Government Titumir College.

The students are demanding the quick implementation of the law to begin the university's operations.
