At Islamic University (IU), students have boycotted classes and exams demanding a fair investigation into the mysterious death of Sajid Abdullah, a student of the Al-Quran and Islamic Studies department, whose body was recovered from the pond of Shah Azizur Rahman Hall. They are calling for the investigation report to be published promptly and claim the death was a murder.
The protest began at 11 am on Saturday in front of the university administration building with Sajid’s batchmates from Convocation 36. Students from Projolito 35 batch, Inquilab 36 batch, and leaders of various student organizations also joined the demonstration.
During the protest, students chanted slogans such as "Don’t get paid without work," "Bodies are floating in IU’s pond," and "Justice for Sajid," while holding placards.
The main demands of the students are:
Conduct a fair and speedy investigation into Sajid’s death and publish a complete report.
Install CCTV cameras throughout the university campus.
Implement 100% monitoring in residential halls along with digital or biometric card systems.
Construct a secure boundary wall.
Install sufficient streetlights and keep them operational.
Control the entry of outsiders into the campus.
Ensure regular presence and accountability of the Vice-Chancellor and senior officials on campus.
Deploy security personnel at all main gates and entry points.
Include students in the investigation committee.
Students have set a deadline of seven working days for these demands to be met and urge swift action.
Additionally, the students harshly criticized the Vice-Chancellor and other administrative officials for negligence.
Following this incident, the students expressed hope that the university and administration would ensure safety and a transparent investigation to make campus life secure.
