Speculation Surrounds Hamza Chowdhury’s Presence as National Football Team Prepares for Nepal Tour

Dhaka, 1 September 2025 – The Bangladesh national football team completed a full training session on Monday at the National Stadium under Spanish coach Javier Cabrera. Amid the practice, attention focused on the speculation regarding the participation of the country’s star player, Hamza Chowdhury.

The team is set to leave the country on 3 September to play two friendly matches in Nepal on 6 and 9 September. Hamza, who currently plays for English club Leicester City, has not yet confirmed whether he will join the national team during this window.

Coach Javier Cabrera said before training, “Hamza’s participation is a management matter. The team is ready for the Nepal tour. Even if Hamza doesn’t come, it will not be a problem.”

Team captain Tapu Barman added, “Many of our plays start through Hamza. Despite his busy schedule, he is trying to join. If he doesn’t come, it will be a bit of a challenge, but we will adapt.”

Manager Amer Khan also mentioned that discussions regarding Hamza’s participation have taken place personally, and he is monitoring the situation.

Bangladesh’s next major objective is the Asian Cup qualifiers, starting on 9 October. The two friendlies in Nepal are intended as preparation for the match against Hong Kong. Tapu Barman noted, “Nepal’s playing style is similar to Hong Kong’s, with both teams using low defensive blocks. The Nepal matches will help us prepare for Hong Kong.”

The first match will take place on 6 September in Kathmandu. The captain believes that five days are sufficient for team coordination and preparation, though he expressed concerns about Nepal’s altitude and the stadium conditions.

Although Dasarath Stadium in Nepal has not been approved for AFC qualification matches, there are no restrictions for hosting friendlies. Therefore, both matches on 6 and 9 September will be held at Dasarath Stadium in Kathmandu.
