Shakib’s Return Uncertain for Pakistan Series

Despite rumors of Shakib Al Hasan’s return to the national team for the upcoming home series against Pakistan, uncertainty remains. The three-match ODI series begins on March 11, but his participation appears unlikely.

After the political shift in August 2024, the former parliamentarian has been abroad. Multiple legal cases, including murder charges, are ongoing. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Ministry of Youth & Sports are coordinating on these legal complexities.

A BCB director said that Shakib would undergo fitness testing under trainers and physiotherapists if he returns, and may need to play domestic cricket to regain match fitness. Only after evaluation will a decision about his national team inclusion be made.

Political and legal constraints, along with technical considerations, may prevent him from playing in Pakistan.
