School manager arrested over child abuse incident in Nayapaltan

Assistant Police Commissioner of Motijheel Zone, Husain Muhammad Farabi, said a Paltan police team conducted the early morning operation to arrest Barua. Police further stated that another team is working to arrest headteacher Sharmin Jahan.

The incident occurred on 18 January at Sharmin Academy, where a child under four in the pre-play class was abused in the school office. A CCTV video of the incident went viral on social media, causing widespread outrage. The video shows a woman, the headteacher, hitting the child, and a man, the manager, physically assaulting the child, covering the mouth and pulling the head. The child was crying in fear.

A case has been filed under Section 70 of the Child Protection Act. Police stated strict legal action will be taken against those involved after investigation.
