The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-10) has arrested five people with a large quantity of bullets during a planned operation in South Keraniganj, near the capital Dhaka.
The operation was conducted on Tuesday (April 28) at around 9:30 PM based on confidential information.
According to RAB sources, law enforcement began surveillance after receiving information that a group in South Pargendaria area of South Keraniganj police station was illegally buying and selling firearms ammunition.
Later, RAB members posed as buyers and made contact with the group. They were arrested while conducting a transaction at a fixed location.
The arrested individuals are: Md. Alamgir Hossain alias Salauddin (50), Md. Sajib (27), Asha Akter Jorna (20), Md. Opu Bepari alias Qurban (24), and Md. Khokon (56). Four of them are local residents, while one is from a neighboring district.
During the operation, a total of 68 rounds of bullets and three mobile phones were seized from them. During initial interrogation, they admitted that the bullets were suitable for pistols and revolvers and were collected from various sources for sale in the local market.
RAB-10 Assistant Director (Media) ASP Anwar Hossain said that the arrest was made after pre-arranging the deal as part of surveillance, and they were caught red-handed during the transaction. He also said legal proceedings are underway against the arrested individuals.
Officials believe such operations are significant progress in dismantling illegal arms and ammunition networks.
