Three killed, 11 injured in Nageshwari road accident

Three people were killed and at least 11 injured in a road accident in Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram district.

The accident occurred late Tuesday night (April 28) in Baperirhat Banshtala area of Santoshpur Union in a head-on collision between a truck and a passenger microbus.

According to police and local sources, a truck coming from Bhurungamari collided head-on with a passenger microbus coming from Kurigram. Two people died on the spot due to the severity of the collision. Later, another person died at the hospital.

The deceased are: 8-year-old Shadia from Uttar Tilai area of Asadmor in Bhurungamari upazila, Nur Nabi (28) of the same area, and microbus driver Limon (28). All were passengers of the microbus.

Locals, fire service, and police conducted rescue operations. The injured were sent to Nageshwari Upazila Health Complex, Kurigram Sadar Hospital, and Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Several are in critical condition.

Police OC Abdullah Hil Zaman said police responded immediately and assisted in rescue operations. Investigation into the cause is ongoing.

Locals say frequent accidents occur due to speeding and lack of proper lighting on the road and demanded immediate action.
