Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami and Leader of the Opposition, has said that internationally renowned Islamic scholar and Quran exegete Allama Delawar Hossain Sayeedi will live in people’s hearts for a long time.

He made the comment in a statement issued on Friday on the occasion of the death anniversary of Allama Sayeedi.

In the statement, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that some people may leave this world, but they remain alive for a long time in the love and memories of the people. He said Allama Sayeedi was one such person who had earned a place in people’s hearts through his speeches, religious knowledge and close connection with ordinary people.

He said Sayeedi had spent more than five decades traveling to different parts of the country, teaching people about the Quran and calling them toward Islam. From large platforms in cities to gatherings of ordinary people in villages, he delivered religious speeches in various settings. The Jamaat Ameer also noted that Sayeedi’s Quranic interpretation and religious activities had extended beyond the borders of Bangladesh to different parts of the world.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further said that the love and support of the people took Sayeedi from the platforms of Quranic interpretation to the National Parliament. As a member of parliament, he spoke about religious values, Alia and Qawmi madrasa education, and various demands and concerns of ordinary people.

Referring to parliamentary activities, he claimed that Sayeedi had played an important role in ending a practice in which lawmakers traditionally bowed their heads before entering the parliamentary chamber in front of the Speaker.

The Jamaat Ameer said that many people devoted to Allah throughout history had faced persecution. Similarly, he said, Allama Sayeedi’s life was also marked by what he described as oppression and persecution. The statement also mentioned that large numbers of people had taken to the streets at different times to express their love for Sayeedi and protest what was described as persecution against him.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that deaths had occurred during various movements and protests and that the streets had at times been stained with blood. However, he said that despite these events, it had not been possible to erase the love for Sayeedi that had developed in the hearts of the people.

In the statement, he recalled Allama Sayeedi’s religious and social activities and expressed respect for his followers.
