At least three people were killed and 29 injured, including seven children, in a Russian drone attack on Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, according to Interior Minister Ihor Kylmenko. Several of the seriously injured were hospitalized following Sunday’s strike.
In Ukraine’s eastern city of Kharkiv, one person was killed Saturday night, and in the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, a 63-year-old individual was reported dead on Sunday, according to Kyiv Independent sources.
In Donetsk, four people were killed Saturday and another on Sunday due to Russian attacks, reported Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin on Telegram. On Sunday morning, Ukrainian strikes reportedly killed two more in the Lenin District of Russian-controlled Donetsk city and in the Kherson region, according to Russian state news agency TASS.
Meanwhile, in Moscow, four airports were closed on Monday morning due to Ukrainian drone attacks. Russian Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that Russia’s air defense systems shot down 28 drones within five hours. Additionally, one person was killed in Russia’s Belgorod region on Sunday due to Ukrainian attacks.
TASS reported on behalf of the Russian Defense Ministry that in the past 24 hours, Russia shot down 281 Ukrainian drones and two guided bombs.
Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed on Sunday that Russia successfully tested its nuclear-powered Burevestnik cruise missile, which he stated could "penetrate any defense system." Russian Chief of Staff General Valery Gerasimov confirmed the missile traveled 14,000 kilometers (8,700 miles) and remained in the air for over 15 hours.
Ukrainian forces recently recaptured settlements in Donetsk’s Kucheriv Yar and Sukhetsk, although the situation remains tense. Experts note that events such as immunotherapy, drone strikes, and nuclear tests may influence the pace and tactics of the conflict in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that Slovakia will not participate in any European Union program providing military aid to Ukraine. North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui is scheduled to visit Russia from October 26–28, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Lithuania also closed airports and the Belarus border on Sunday, citing the entry of balloon-like objects into airspace, the country’s National Crisis Management Center reported.
