Madrasa teacher sent to remand in case of 11-year-old madrasa student’s pregnancy

In Netrokona’s Madan upazila, a madrasa teacher arrested in a case involving the pregnancy of an 11-year-old madrasa student has been sent to a three-day remand by the court. The order was issued on Thursday (7 May) afternoon by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohsina Islam of Netrokona.

The prosecution had applied for a seven-day remand of the accused in order to uncover detailed facts of the incident through investigation. However, after the hearing, the court granted a three-day remand, confirmed Netrokona Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Public Prosecutor Nurul Kabir.

He said that the accused was produced before the court at around 11:00 AM on Thursday. At that time, the prosecution requested remand for interrogation in order to reveal the true facts of the incident.

According to the case statement and local sources, the accused teacher established a Qawmi madrasa four years ago. The victim child used to stay at her maternal grandfather’s house and studied there. Recently, when she became physically ill, she was taken to hospital, where medical tests confirmed her pregnancy.

Following this, on 23 April, the child’s mother filed a case at the police station. After the case was filed, law enforcement agencies launched an investigation, and on Tuesday night, RAB arrested the accused teacher from the Gouripur area of Mymensingh.

The prosecution further informed the court that evidence of the accused’s involvement was found in the victim’s statement under Section 22. An application has also been made to conduct DNA testing of the child to be born in the future.

Meanwhile, it has been alleged that a female doctor who provided medical treatment in this case has faced threats and harassment. Police said the matter is being taken seriously and surveillance has been increased to ensure the doctor’s safety.
