Ronaldo threatens to leave Al Nassr if management changes not guaranteed

Cristiano Ronaldo has decided not to leave his position at Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr until he receives a clear guarantee of desired management changes. He continues to boycott the league matches for the second consecutive game.

ESPN reports that if positive responses from the club and investors are not received in the coming weeks, Ronaldo may formally request to leave Al Nassr in June. He did not play in the recent 1-0 victory against Al Riyadh.

Ronaldo claims that Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) provides more advantages and investment to Al Hilal than Al Nassr, disrupting competitive balance. He has also expressed dissatisfaction regarding the transfer of French star Karim Benzema to Al Hilal.

Although he boycotted matches, he participated in training throughout the week, sharing photos on social media. Ronaldo has clearly told the club that he will return to the field only if the management restores authority, assures no interference in future transfers, and guarantees the formation of a competitive team.

The upcoming match against Al Ittihad is crucial. Recent temporary suspension of Sporting Director Simao Coutinho and CEO Jose Semedo by PIF has complicated the situation. Meanwhile, Al Hilal received major investment from Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, enabling the signing of top players like Benzema.

Ronaldo has not won a major trophy since joining Al Nassr in 2022. Despite interest from Europe and the US, he does not wish to leave due to upcoming World Cup preparations. His contract, extended until 2027, includes a release clause of approximately €5 million. Saudi Pro League authorities do not want to lose their star player and have promised substantial investment in summer transfers. Bruno Fernandes is reportedly also being considered as a new signing.

Al Hilal currently leads the league by one point over Al Nassr.
