Released on 12-hour parole to view husband's body, Dipu Moni

Former Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni was released on 12-hour parole to see the mortal remains of her husband, Barrister Towfique Nawaz, one last time, and has arrived at her Kalabagan residence in the capital. Upon seeing her husband's body there, she could not hold back her emotions and broke down in tears.

On Thursday (August 20) at 6:15 AM, Dipu Moni departed from Munshiganj District Jail in a prison van bound for Dhaka under tight security. Around three hours later, at approximately 9:15 AM, she reached her Kalabagan residence.

After arriving home, Dipu Moni viewed her husband's body placed inside the prison van. At that moment, she became tearful. A wave of grief descended upon the relatives surrounding her as well, creating an emotionally charged environment throughout the house.

Dipu Moni's lawyer, Gazi Faisal, stated that Dipu Moni and Towfique Nawaz had first met in this very house in Kalabagan. After viewing her husband's body, he will be taken to the Gulshan Azad Mosque. Following the funeral prayers (Janaza) there, he is scheduled to be buried at the Banani Graveyard.

Earlier on Wednesday (August 19), Dipu Moni's daughter, Tani Dipavali Nawaz, submitted an application for her mother's release on parole to see her husband one last time. Following the application, she was granted permission for a 12-hour parole release. Her parole duration was fixed from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Thursday.

Barrister Towfique Nawaz passed away on Tuesday (August 18) night while undergoing treatment at Continental Hospital in Gulshan in the capital. He was 76 years old. He had been suffering from various physical complications, including kidney and liver ailments, for a long time.

After receiving the news of her husband's demise, the application for parole release was made so she could participate in his final send-off. Dipu Moni is expected to be returned to prison after the completion of the final rites, including the burial, within the stipulated time.
