Rajshahi Professor Killed, Another Critically Injured in Road Accident

In a tragic road accident in Nawhata, Rajshahi, two senior professors of Rajshahi University (RU) were involved. Professor Dr. Shiv Shankar Roy from the Marketing Department was killed, while Professor Dr. Asaduzzaman from the Philosophy Department sustained serious injuries.

The accident occurred on Friday (October 10) around 7 a.m. in front of the Nawhata Jute Mill on the outskirts of Rajshahi city. According to police, the two professors had set out on a motorcycle in the morning to go fishing. On the way, their motorcycle collided head-on with a sand-loaded truck.

Locals reported that the fire service and police immediately rescued the two professors from the accident site and took them to Rajshahi Medical College (RAMEC) Hospital. Doctors declared Professor Shiv Shankar Roy dead at the hospital. Professor Asaduzzaman, who is critically injured, is currently receiving treatment in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Professor Dr. Shiv Shankar Roy had been teaching in the Marketing Department at RU for many years and was a popular faculty member among his colleagues. His untimely death has cast a shadow of grief over the university campus.

RU’s Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Farid Uddin Khan, expressed his condolences on social media, writing, “This morning, we lost our beloved colleague Professor Shiv Shankar Roy in a road accident. Professor Asaduzzaman from the Philosophy Department is undergoing treatment at RAMEC in serious condition. We pray for the peace of the departed soul and the speedy recovery of the injured professor.”

Monirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Paba Police Station, said, “The two professors were traveling toward Nawgaon on a motorcycle when the accident occurred in front of the Nawhata Jute Mill after colliding with a truck. The truck driver and his assistant fled the scene. Efforts are underway to apprehend them.”

University faculty and students expressed that the RU community has lost a dedicated and approachable teacher. The death of Shiv Shankar Roy is an irreparable loss to the education sector of Rajshahi.
