PNN News Desk | Rajshahi:
The election campaigns for the Rajshahi University Central Student Union (RACSU), Hall Councils, and Senate student representative elections have concluded amid a festive atmosphere. The campaigns continued until midnight on Tuesday, 14 October. The campus buzzed with excitement and enthusiasm for a fair election. The final day of campaigning was particularly vibrant, with candidates engaging their supporters to reach out to voters.
The Election Commission has stated that all preparations for the election have been completed and security measures around the campus have been strengthened. Chief Election Commissioner Professor F. Nazrul Islam said, “We are pleased to see the enthusiasm among candidates and voters. Now we await the auspicious moment of the election.”
On the final day of campaigning, candidates were highly active across the campus. From early morning, they visited voters, and campaign activities were concentrated in key areas such as the university transport market. Candidates supported by Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir participated simultaneously, while panels backed by leftist student organizations also ran their campaigns.
During the campaign, some candidates raised allegations of violations of election conduct. The Shibir-supported panel “Shommilito Shikkharthi Jote” and the Chhatra Dal-supported panel “Oikkoboddho Notun Projonmo” claimed that their campaign efforts were obstructed and that there were instances of bias against candidates and their supporters. The Election Commission has assured that all complaints will be addressed promptly.
Security arrangements on campus have been further strengthened ahead of the election. A total of 2,000 police officers, 6 platoons of BGB, and 12 platoons of RAB will be deployed. Motorcycle movement will be prohibited on election day, and other restrictions will also be enforced.
In this election, there are 247 candidates for the RACSU posts, 58 candidates for Senate student representative elections, and 597 candidates for Hall Council elections. The total number of voters is 28,901 students.
Although the campus has a festive atmosphere due to the elections, the administration has completed all preparations to ensure security and is committed to conducting a free, fair, and safe election.
