PNN News Desk | Dhaka:

The BNP is focusing on the nomination of candidates from its allied parties ahead of the upcoming national elections. The party has already received a list of 106 candidates from its allies. This list has come from five parties and two alliances, though the left-leaning six-party alliance “Gonotontro Moncho” has not yet shared the names of its candidates.

So far, Gonotontro Moncho has announced candidates for 138 constituencies. Among these, the relationship between Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP and the seat-sharing arrangement has become significant, especially as uncertainties remain about how these will be implemented before signing the official agreement.

BNP sources indicate that a meeting between BNP and Gonotontro Moncho will be held soon to discuss seat-sharing, candidate nominations, and election preparations. Discussions are currently ongoing for 244 constituencies, though the process is not yet complete. Negotiations with some other parties are also underway, which are not included in this count.

This time, BNP aims to prepare a coordinated and balanced candidate list to ensure representation from different parties and all segments of society. BNP leaders have stated that this election will take place in a different context from previous elections, and the activities of Islamist parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, will present significant challenges.

Meanwhile, some smaller parties have submitted their candidate lists requesting more constituencies for strategic reasons, which has created a degree of discomfort among BNP leaders. Some leaders have noted that if these lists are not submitted, dissatisfaction could arise even if these parties’ candidates are not nominated.

Candidates from the National Citizens Party (NCP), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Gonoforum, NDM, and other parties are currently pressuring workers in constituencies to secure nominations. BNP is analyzing this matter carefully and plans to nominate candidates, prioritizing those with higher chances of winning.

Sources indicate that there are still some unresolved issues in Gonotontro Moncho’s candidate list, particularly regarding seat allocation. Final decisions on which candidate will contest in which constituency have not yet been made. However, BNP leaders hope these issues will be resolved soon.

Additionally, some leaders of allied parties, particularly Jamaat-e-Islami, have expressed uncertainty regarding their candidate lists. While BNP’s relationship with Jamaat is not yet fully clarified, complexities remain between the two parties.

BNP continues to prepare its own candidate list while coordinating with its allied parties. After discussions and negotiations on these matters, BNP leaders have stated that they will announce the final list of candidates.
