A writ petition has been filed in the High Court regarding the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election scheduled for October 6. The petition seeks to declare illegal a letter sent by the BCB president before the finalization of councillors by the district and divisional ad hoc committees.
The writ may be heard by a division bench in the High Court on Tuesday (September 22). Through the petition, Tapan of Tangail, Kamrul of Lakshmipur, Khasru of Gopalganj, and Dulal of Rajbari have claimed that BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul rejected applications from councillors nominated by the ad hoc committees during the election process.
The writ states that the BCB president has no authority to request councillor nominations from outside the ad hoc committees. However, 53 nomination forms have since been submitted, some of which were from district sports associations nominating councillors outside the ad hoc committees. Under Article 12.7 of the existing constitution, there is no provision for sending new councillors.
