Rajshahi University (RU) has canceled the enrollment of three students after proving allegations of proxy use in the first-year undergraduate admission test. The decision was made at a syndicate meeting held yesterday, Monday (January 6).
The students whose enrollment has been canceled are: Mehedi Hasan Soni from the Accounting and Information Systems Department, Fahim Al Mamun Barno from the Law Department, and Md. Shovon from the Physical Education and Sports Science Department.
Professor Dr. Md. Nizam Uddin of the Arabic Department, a member of the syndicate, confirmed that after the investigation clearly proved that the students had been admitted through proxies, the syndicate unanimously decided to cancel their enrollment and student status.
University sources revealed that on September 9, 2024, a media report raised allegations of multiple students being admitted via the same proxy. Upon the administration’s attention, a five-member investigative committee was formed on September 15 of the same year.
The committee was chaired by the university proctor, Professor Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman. Other members included Acting Registrar Professor Dr. Iftikharul Alam Masud, Vice-Provost Professor Dr. Moha. Farid Uddin Khan, former ICT Center Director Professor Khademul Islam Molla, and Sub-Registrar A.H.M. Aslam Hossain as member secretary.
After a thorough investigation, the committee confirmed the allegations and submitted a report, based on which the syndicate made this disciplinary decision.
The university administration stated that the "zero tolerance" policy would be enforced to maintain admission transparency and educational standards. They also mentioned that strict measures would be taken in the future if such allegations arise.
This incident has sparked calls among some students for strengthening the ethics and monitoring of admission tests on campus.
