After a long wait, vote counting for the Jagannath University Central Student Union (JUCSU) election has begun. Out of 39 centers, results from 14 centers have been officially announced by the election commission. The remaining 25 centers are still under counting.
On Wednesday (January 7) morning, Professor Dr. Kaniz Fatema Kakli, an election commissioner, announced the results of the Botany Department center. Earlier, results from several other centers across faculties, including the Faculty of Fine Arts, had been announced.
According to the preliminary results from the 14 centers, AKM Rakib, the candidate supported by Chhatra Dal, is clearly leading in the position of Vice President (VP). Meanwhile, candidates from the "Adamya Jobian Unity" panel, supported by Chhatra Shibir, have shown strong positions in the posts of General Secretary (GS) and Assistant General Secretary (AGS).
According to the 14 center results, AKM Rakib received a total of 1,673 votes for the VP position. His closest competitor, Riazul Islam, supported by Chhatra Shibir, received 1,424 votes. Thus, Rakib is currently ahead by 249 votes.
For the GS position, Abdul Alim Arif of the Adamya Jobian Unity received 1,612 votes across 14 centers. In contrast, Khadijatul Kobura, supported by Chhatra Dal, received 793 votes, leaving Arif ahead by a margin of 819 votes.
For the AGS position, Masud Rana, supported by Chhatra Shibir, received a total of 1,465 votes. His closest competitor, Atikur Rahman Tanzil, supported by Chhatra Dal, received 1,297 votes, leaving Masud ahead by 168 votes.
The published results show that candidates from the Adamya Jobian panel performed well in GS and AGS positions in several centers, including Geography & Environment, Anthropology, Pharmacy, CSE, Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology, Microbiology, and Marketing. However, in some centers such as Finance, Fine Arts, Philosophy, and Botany, Chhatra Dal-supported candidates are leading in the VP and AGS posts.
In some centers, the results were very close. For example, in the Zoology Department center, the top two candidates for VP are tied, which has heightened the election's excitement.
The election commission has stated that results from the remaining centers will be announced gradually. It is expected that the full picture of JUCSU will become clear only after all centers' results are published.
Meanwhile, the vote counting has generated extra interest and curiosity among students on the university campus. The election commission has also ensured transparency by displaying live results on LED screens.
