Protests and Human Chain in Kushtia Demanding the Cancellation of Lipton's Bail

A human chain and protest march were held in front of the Kushtia District Commissioner’s office demanding the cancellation of the bail of Jahangir Kabir, aka Lipton, a top leader of the southwestern extremist group Ganomukti Fouz, who was arrested during a military operation on the night of June 6 in the Ujangram Union of Kushtia Sadar Upazila.

During Lipton's arrest, six foreign-made firearms, one long-barrel gun, ten magazines, 140 rounds of ammunition, eight shields, and six spears along with other equipment were recovered. Later, on September 8, Kushtia District and Sessions Judge Shumiya Khanom granted him bail, which sparked public outrage.

On Wednesday at 11 a.m., thousands of people participated in the protest march. They submitted a memorandum to the district commissioner demanding the cancellation of Lipton's bail. Speakers at the human chain said, "Lipton is involved in multiple murders, and he faces cases related to arms, extortion, and abduction. Granting him bail is extremely harmful to society."

At the peaceful human chain held on NS Road in Kushtia town, ordinary people who had fallen victim to terrorist activities shared their experiences. During this time, the speakers said, "After the government’s fall, Lipton established ties with several political parties and returned to the area, starting his terrorist activities again. No action was taken against him, which is why he is now free on bail."

The protesters demanded that the government cancel his bail, warning that if this is not done, instability in society will increase. They urged the authorities to take strong action against the top extremist leader.
