UPDF Democratic associate member killed in Khagrachhari shooting

A young man named Md. Imon Hossain (25) was killed by gunfire from miscreants in Panchhari upazila of Khagrachhari. The incident took place early Thursday (May 7) in the Islampur area of the upazila. The deceased was reportedly an associate member of UPDF Democratic.

Imon Hossain was the son of Ruhul Amin from Mohammadpur area of Panchhari upazila.

According to local sources, armed miscreants opened fire on him in front of his house while he was walking in the early morning. He died on the spot in the sudden attack, and the attackers fled immediately.

The incident created panic in the area. Police later recovered the body from the scene.

UPDF Democratic organizer Amar Chakma claimed that Imon was an associate member of their organization. He said Imon had visited home on Wednesday night to see his pregnant wife and was shot dead after coming out of the house in the morning.

He blamed the Proshit-panthy faction of UPDF for the killing. However, no response from the accused side was available so far.

Panchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Ferdous Wahid said the body has been recovered and preparations are underway to send it to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the killing. He added that operations are ongoing to identify and arrest those involved.
