Among the three recently approved universities, Naogaon University has received permission to start limited classes this academic session. Similarly, Meherpur University is optimistic about beginning student admission and academic activities for 2025–26. However, Bogura Science & Technology University has yet to receive final approval, so classes will not commence there this year.
Although the delay caused disappointment among students and parents, recent decisions have brought some relief. The University Grants Commission (UGC) previously instructed the new universities to submit proposals for opening departments. Upon verification of required documents, approval procedures moved forward.
Under UGC approval, Naogaon University can start two departments this year: the Law Department under the Faculty of Law and the Accounting and Information Department under the Faculty of Business Studies. The university administration is preparing to begin admissions, pending UGC’s final instructions.
At Meherpur University, preliminary approval has been granted to open two departments under a single faculty, though the specific departments have not been finalized. Originally named Mujibnagar University, the institution was later renamed Meherpur University. Due to the lack of a permanent campus, the government college in Meherpur is currently being used as a temporary campus.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sheikh Bakhtiar Uddin said a meeting with UGC would soon determine final admission procedures.
At Bogura Science & Technology University, on-site inspections and infrastructure assessments are still pending. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Qudrat-e-Jahan mentioned plans to start departments in Automobile Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, aiming to launch them in the next academic session.
