Prohibited Chhatra League activist arrested while trying to lay flowers at National Memorial

A former member of the banned Chhatra League, Sheikh Shimon (21), was arrested by police while attempting to lay flowers at the National Memorial in Savar for Victory Day.

He was apprehended by a team from Ashulia Police Station on Tuesday (16 December) afternoon for suspicious behavior in the memorial premises. After verifying his identity, he was officially arrested.

According to the National Memorial Police Outpost in-charge Mahmudul Hasan, Shimon identified himself as a former Chhatra League member and said he came to the memorial to lay flowers for Victory Day.

Police said Shimon is a resident of Pubnartek Club area, Ashulia, and son of Abdul Alim Sheikh. He was a former member of the Ashulia committee of the banned Chhatra League.

Police mentioned that Shimon had entered the National Memorial area with several others. One was also arrested, while efforts continue to identify and apprehend the others. Shimon has been handed over to the police station and will be presented in court after case formalities. The section of law under which the case will be filed will be announced after investigation.
