Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided not to play against India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The decision came after discussions with the government.

The highly anticipated India-Pakistan match will not take place, causing significant financial losses to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Due to longstanding political tensions, India and Pakistan rarely play bilateral series, meeting only in ICC global tournaments. This match attracts the highest viewership and commercial interest in cricket. Consequently, a large portion of the tournament’s revenue depends on this match.

Indian media analysts estimate that the commercial value of an India-Pakistan T20 match is worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The broadcasting rights, advertising, sponsorships, ticket sales, and other income sources make it the most profitable event of the tournament. No other single match comes close to this value.

Advertising demand is particularly high for this match. Without it, the overall financial plan of the tournament will be destabilized. Broadcasters face immediate pressure, and the absence of the match will significantly reduce expected revenue. Several broadcasting companies have already requested financial relief or compensation from the ICC.

A decline in central ICC revenue will affect allocations to member boards, impacting both major and smaller cricket boards dependent on ICC funding. For India, this financial loss is manageable, but for Pakistan, it is more critical, as a significant portion of PCB revenue comes from ICC allocations. The decision may also affect future commercial value of Pakistan’s matches and negatively impact long-term PCB revenue flow.
