For a long time, both government and private banks in the country have been providing scholarships to help talented students achieve their higher education dreams. However, recently, this initiative has declined. Currently, Sonali Bank, Shahjalal Islami Bank, and Dutch-Bangla Bank (DBBL) are providing scholarships regularly. Meanwhile, Al-Arafah Islami Bank, Islami Bank, and EXIM Bank have suspended their scholarship programs.
Analysts say that despite having budgets for social responsibility in the education sector, the reduced spending reflects a lack of attention to education. Providing scholarships to support underprivileged and talented students is especially important at a time when educational opportunities are still not equally accessible.
