Not a personal attack, but criticism of a low-minded mentality: Rumin Farhana

Barister Rumin Farhana, BNP’s Joint Secretary for International Affairs and former member of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad, explained her recent “fokinnir bachcha” comment aimed at Hasnat Abdullah, a leader of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP).

After criticism spread on social media, she clarified the matter on a private television talk show. Rumin Farhana stated that the phrase “fokinnir bachcha” does not refer to a person’s financial status. Rather, it reflects a mentality or way of thinking—she explained that it signifies a mindset that is backward in thought and morally weak.

She further alleged that political leaders like NCP’s Joint Secretary Humayra Noor and Hasnat Abdullah often use language that is unacceptable and appears vulgar to the general public. According to her, the words and slogans they use often resemble street slang and are not considered appropriate in political discourse.

Rumin Farhana also mentioned that when she used the phrase “fokinnir bachcha,” the photos and screenshots posted clearly indicate whom she was referring to.

Earlier, on Sunday, Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer of NCP’s southern region, referred to Rumin Farhana as “BNP’s Awami League affairs secretary” in a comment. In response, on Monday, Rumin Farhana reacted on her verified Facebook page, sharing some photos and screenshots related to Hasnat’s student league activities.
