In a significant meeting of like-minded Islamic parties held at the central office of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis in Purana Paltan, Dhaka, leaders and activists emphasized that the upcoming national parliamentary election must be conducted on the legal basis of the July Charter. The meeting was presided over by Secretary General Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmad.
Participants included Maulana Yunus Ahmad, Secretary General of Islami Andolan Bangladesh; Senior Joint Secretary General Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman; Advocate Jahangir Hossain, Joint Secretary General of Khilafat Majlis; Dr. Mustafizur Rahman Faisal; Maulana Abdul Majed Athari, Naib Amir of Nezame Islam Party; Secretary General Maulana Musa Bin Izhar; and Joint Secretary General Maulana Ataullah Amin.
The leaders stated that the July Charter promised by the interim government can only be properly implemented if it receives legal recognition, not merely as a verbal assurance. They emphasized that if the national election is conducted based on this charter, it will be accepted by the people; otherwise, the voting process will lose credibility and create political instability.
The leaders raised the question, “How can a government that is not constitutionally formed organize elections under the constitution?” They argued that granting the July Charter legal status is the only way for the government to gain legitimacy and earn the trust of the people.
Additionally, the meeting outlined plans to strengthen and expand the unity of the like-minded Islamic parties. The leaders expressed their firm commitment to continue the struggle to safeguard the legitimate rights of the people while keeping Islamic forces united.
