Police have recovered the body of a newborn from a shopping bag wrapped in plastic near the south side of Mandabag Railway Station in Kasba Upazila, Brahmanbaria. The tragic incident occurred late Monday night, creating shock in the local community.
Locals reported that they initially did not pay much attention when they saw a red shopping bag lying beside the railway line at night. However, when some dogs started barking at the bag, curious residents attempted to open it. They were horrified to find the body of a newborn wrapped in plastic inside the bag. Upon receiving the news, a local Union Parishad member informed the Akhaura Railway Police.
Police arrived at the scene and recovered the body. Hundreds of people gathered nearby. Confirming the incident, OC of Akhaura Railway Police Station, SM Shafiqul Islam, stated: "Preliminarily, it is believed that the newborn was abandoned immediately after birth. The body has been brought to the police station and will be sent to the district hospital for post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the incident."
