After a long hiatus, student politics has resumed at Dhaka University. Although political activities were banned in the halls since July 17, 2024, the Dhaka University branch of the Bangladesh Nationalist Student Party (Chhatra Dal) has lifted this ban by approving new convenor committees.

On Friday (August 8), Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahosh, president of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal, and Nahiduzzaman Shipon, general secretary, approved convenor committees for 18 hall branches under the university. A total of 593 students have been assigned responsibilities in these committees.

Each hall has formed committees of varying sizes led by a convenor, senior joint convenor, and member secretary. Representatives of Chhatra Dal are taking on new responsibilities in residential and non-residential halls, including Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, Kabi Jasimuddin Hall, Masterda Surya Sen Hall, Bijoy Ekattor Hall, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, and Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall.

Chhatra Dal leaders say this initiative will restart their organizational activities at Dhaka University and help them play an active role in the university’s politics in the future.
