Nahid Islam, Convener of the National Citizens' Party (NCP), paid a courtesy visit to the families of the martyrs of the July mass uprising. On Sunday (20 July) at 10:30 AM, he met with members of the martyrs’ families at Motel Saikat in the New Market area of Chattogram city and delivered an emotional speech during the gathering.
Nahid Islam said, “We are currently facing many difficulties. You’ve seen the way we were treated in Gopalganj. We are being obstructed in different areas, and our programs are being vandalized. We don’t want any conflict; instead, we seek your prayers because that is the most valuable thing for us.”
He further stated, “When we were in government, or someone we supported was in power, attempts were made to take initiatives for the martyrs’ families. But authoritarian elements within the administration posed significant barriers to implementation. As a result, the rightful honor for the martyrs’ families could not be ensured.”
Emphasizing his stance, Nahid said, “We are not here with a political identity. Your family members were martyred for the country and stood with us. This relationship is not political, it's a bond of the soul. Martyrs do not belong to any party—they gave their lives for the nation, for everyone.”
Present at the meeting were NCP’s chief organizer of the northern region Sarjis Alam, joint secretary Tasnim Zara, Chattogram coordinator Jobairul Arif, and several others.
It is worth noting that the NCP launched its “Build the Nation: July March” program on 1 July. As part of this, the party began a march from Cox’s Bazar yesterday, with a plan to reach Chakaria. However, the rally was canceled due to vandalism of the stage. The party members then carried out their program in Bandarban before arriving in Chattogram.
Following the meeting with the martyrs’ families on Sunday, the group departed for Rangamati. They are expected to return to Chattogram city in the evening to hold another program.
According to NCP, the party plans to continue its march across every region of the country, with the primary goal of establishing direct connections with the people.
