The Election Commission has announced that the National Citizens Party (NCP) will not be allotted the Shapla (Water Lily) symbol in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election. Akhtar Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat, confirmed this information at a press briefing held on Tuesday at the Election Commission office in Agargaon, Dhaka.

The EC Secretary stated, “Out of our 115 designated symbols, Shapla is not included. According to the rules, one must choose a symbol from the available options. Since Shapla is not listed, it cannot be allocated.”

Regarding this matter, NCP’s Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari met with the Chief Election Commissioner yesterday and expressed the party’s firm stance, stating they will not accept any symbol other than Shapla.

The EC Secretary further added that starting from September 28, the commission will begin dialogues with various political parties, civil society members, academics, women leaders, media representatives, and election experts. Additionally, the commission is reviewing political party registration documents, electoral codes of conduct, and matters related to RPOs (Returning Officers’ Orders).
