National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari has condemned the alleged attack on actress Azmeri Haque Badhon and her family in Venice, Italy. He has also demanded that those involved in the incident be brought to justice.
Nasiruddin Patwari expressed the reaction in a post published on his verified Facebook account early Tuesday (September 8).
In the post, he said the alleged attack on Badhon and her family while she was representing Bangladesh at the Venice Film Festival was extremely concerning. According to him, political views or slogans cannot be imposed on anyone through fear, threats or the use of force under any circumstances.
Nasiruddin Patwari also noted that Azmeri Haque Badhon had stood beside students and the public during the July movement and had publicly taken a position against injustice. He commented that although remaining silent would have been easier at that time, she did not remain silent.
The NCP leader said it was deeply unfortunate that an artist and her family were allegedly attacked while representing Bangladesh at an internationally important film festival. He also referred to allegations that Badhon was forcibly pressured to say “Joy Bangla”—according to the claims surrounding the incident.
In Nasiruddin Patwari’s view, when an attempt is made to impose a political slogan on someone through intimidation or force, it ceases to be an expression of political ideology and instead becomes an expression of coercion and intolerance.
At the end of his post, Nasiruddin Patwari strongly condemned the alleged attack on Badhon and her family and demanded a proper investigation into the incident and justice for those responsible.
Meanwhile, the allegation of an attack on Badhon while she was representing Bangladesh at the Venice Film Festival has also sparked discussion on social media. Various claims have emerged regarding the details of the incident and those allegedly involved, although an official statement from the relevant authorities is still awaited.
