PNN News Desk | Dhaka:
Samantha Sharmin, Senior Joint Convenor of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has claimed that a process is underway to disrupt the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election. She pointed out that the widespread popularity of Chhatra Dal’s nominated vice-president candidate, Abidul Islam Khan, has caused concern among certain political circles.
Samantha Sharmin stated, “A process may be initiated to prevent students from voting. Efforts are being made to hinder the voting environment on campus and to put pressure on voters.” She added, “Disrupting or ignoring the DUCSU election is absolutely unacceptable. All parties must be given the opportunity to vote freely.”
Meanwhile, following the High Court’s stay order, the chamber court and the Appellate Division’s suspension orders, there are now no legal obstacles to holding the DUCSU election on September 9. The Appellate Division’s full bench, led by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refat Ahmed, issued the order on Wednesday.
According to Sharmin, attempts are being made to influence the election through politically motivated conspiracies, which could affect the transparency and independence of student politics.
