PNN News Desk | Dhaka:

Nahid Islam, the convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), stated that anyone or any group involved in attacks on temples or vandalizing idols must be brought under strict legal action, regardless of their political affiliation or religious identity. He added that such acts not only undermine communal harmony but are also part of anti-Bangladesh conspiracies.

On Sunday (28 September), Nahid Islam spoke after a courtesy meeting with the Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council and the Metropolitan Universal Puja Celebration Committee at Dhakeshwari National Temple in Azimpur, Dhaka. During the meeting, he extended greetings to the followers of Sanatan Dharma on the occasion of Puja.

Nahid Islam emphasized that the government must take all necessary measures to ensure that the Puja is conducted smoothly and safely. He assured that the NCP would provide full support. At the same time, he criticized the ongoing shortcomings in democracy, communal inequality, and the insecurity of minority communities, even after 50 years of independence.

Supporting the demand for a special commission to prevent the misappropriation of minority property, Nahid Islam said that to ensure justice for minorities, the culture of impunity must be broken. He also urged everyone to remain united rather than divided and to work towards building an inclusive Bangladesh.

Other speakers at the meeting included Subrata Choudhury, advisor to the Puja Celebration Council, Pritham Das, Joint General Secretary of NCP, and Joy Biswas, Joint Convener of the Democratic Student Alliance, among others.

Nahid Islam clearly stated that in the upcoming elections, NCP will ensure participation from all communities. In his words, “A truly inclusive state cannot be built in Bangladesh unless everyone’s equal dignity and rights are guaranteed.”
