Morselin Arrested Over the Murder of Freedom Fighter Couple in Taraganj, Rangpur

Police have arrested a youth named Morselin (23) on suspicion of involvement in the widely discussed murder case of a freedom fighter couple in Taraganj, Rangpur. He was arrested from his home in Sherasmaste Balapara village under Alampur Union late Thursday night.

On Friday morning, police took Morselin to the crime scene to search for the murder weapon. Based on his information, police recovered a machete and the handle of an axe from the pond behind the victims’ house. Since morning, machines were deployed to drain the pond water to search for additional evidence.

Rangpur Superintendent of Police Maruf Hossain told reporters at noon that the murders were premeditated. He said Morselin, mentally distressed due to debt pressure, brought an axe from his home and first attacked Subarna Roy Puspo, the wife of the freedom fighter. He then killed freedom fighter Yogesh Roy with the same weapon.

Police say they are investigating whether any others were involved. Local residents remain in fear, but police have assured them of swift resolution of the case.
