Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor, expressed hope that more Bangladeshis will get job opportunities in Malaysia’s labor market. He shared this optimism at a joint press conference held after a high-level meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday (12 August).
At the event organized at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya, Dr. Yunus said, “A large number of Bangladeshis are working in Malaysia. They send their earnings back home, supporting their families and children’s education. We hope this door will remain open in the future, allowing even more young men and women to find work here.”
He added, “The Malaysian people treat Bangladeshis like family members and friends, which encourages the workers. They are learning a lot here that will help them establish businesses when they return home.”
Calling for investment and technology transfer to Bangladesh, the Chief Advisor said, “We want to develop Bangladesh as a production hub. Malaysian businessmen should invest in Bangladesh, utilize human resources, and increase exports abroad.”
Referring to last year’s mass uprising and the fall of autocracy, he said, “The new government has taken responsibility and restored stability in the country. The destroyed institutions have become functional again, enabling us to prepare for elections within a year.”
Dr. Yunus also mentioned that the national elections are scheduled for February. Additionally, he sought Malaysia’s strong support for resolving the Rohingya crisis and for Bangladesh’s membership in ASEAN.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said, “The excellent relationship between the two countries will play an important role in the development of both peoples.”
