BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has commented that some political parties are attempting to postpone the upcoming national parliamentary elections. He stated that such an attempt is unacceptable and could be harmful to the political situation of the country.
Mirza Fakhrul made these remarks while addressing the book launch event titled 'The Great Hero of Mahakal, Martyred Zia' at the Liberation War Memorial Hall of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the capital on Thursday (October 23). He said, "The election schedule should be maintained under any circumstances, as every aspect of the country—economy, politics, education—depends on an elected government."
Protesting against the attempts to delay the election, he said, "The country needs a political government now, one that will be capable of solving all the country's problems."
However, Mirza Fakhrul did not forget to thank the interim government for its reform work. He said, "The interim government has been able to complete some important reforms in a short period of time, which were necessary for the country."
During the event, Mirza Fakhrul also referred to BNP's 31-point roadmap. He said, "From the very beginning, BNP has been in favor of reforms. BNP played a crucial role in the transition from a one-party system to a multi-party system. The freedom of the media, basic rights, and girls' education and employment—all these were established through BNP."
Mirza Fakhrul further said, "Some people now want to portray BNP as a villain, but all the good things in Bangladesh have been accomplished through BNP."
During the book launch, Mirza Fakhrul highlighted the contributions of BNP's founder, Martyred Ziaur Rahman. He said, "There were attempts to erase Ziaur Rahman's name, but history will never forget him."
The event also featured speeches from former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Anwar Ullah Chowdhury, Advisor to the Acting Chairman of BNP Mahdi Amin, BNP Media Cell Convenor Moudud Alamgir Pavel, and several others.
