Miah Golam Porwar has criticized BNP’s stance on constitutional reforms and referendum results, saying BNP rejected several proposals at the National Consensus Commission but the public rejected BNP’s position in the referendum.

He made the remarks at a seminar titled “11-Party Alliance Referendum Verdict: Expression of People’s Sovereign Will” held at the Engineers Institution auditorium on Sunday.

The event was chaired by Muhammad Nazrul Islam and conducted by Muhammad Nurul Amin. Aoli Ahmed was the chief guest.

Porwar said the government is not clearly implementing the July Charter despite announcing it. He claimed that several constitutional reform proposals opposed by BNP were rejected by the public in the referendum.

He further said ignoring the referendum result could lead to authoritarian governance.

Supreme Court senior lawyer and Jamaat leader Mohammad Shishir Monir presented the main paper, saying political leadership needs deeper study on constitutional reform issues.

Aoli Ahmed said ignoring public opinion may destabilize political stability.
