The Meteorological Department has reported that a low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal may bring stormy winds over the country’s coastal areas and sea ports. Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra sea ports have been advised to display Local Signal No. 3.

Meteorologist Kh. Hafizur Rahman of the Meteorological Department stated on Monday (August 18) that a low-pressure system has formed over the west-central Bay of Bengal and the adjoining northwestern Bay of Bengal, off the coasts of northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha. This system is moving west-northwest and may intensify further.

According to the department’s forecast, strong or stormy winds may affect the northern Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh’s coastal areas, and sea ports. Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal and deep sea areas are advised to stay closer to the coast and navigate cautiously.

Earlier, the five-day weather forecast issued on Sunday at 6:00 pm predicted temporary gusty winds with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms across the country. Some areas may experience moderate to heavy rainfall. During this period, daytime and nighttime temperatures may rise or fall slightly.

In the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall was recorded at 56 millimeters in Dhaka and Bandarban. The highest temperature was 36.7°C in Sreemangal, while Dhaka recorded a maximum of 33.7°C.
