Leaders and activists from various political and student organizations are set to join the National Citizen Party (NCP). A press conference will be held on Sunday (April 19) at 1:30 PM at the party’s temporary central office in Banglamotor, Dhaka.
According to party sources, leaders from Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), United People’s Bangladesh (UP Bangladesh), and some leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement will formally join NCP.
An NCP policy-level leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that UP Bangladesh founders Ali Ahsan Junayed and Rafe Salman Rifat are joining the party. AB Party joint general secretary Sani Abdul Haque is also joining.
Additionally, several leaders from the anti-discrimination student movement, including President Rifat Rashid, Chief Coordinator Hasib Al Islam, Office Secretary Shahadat Hossain, Legal Affairs Secretary Mahfuz, and Kushtia University unit convener SM Sweet are joining.
The organization said Rifat Rashid may join National Youth Power, Hasib Al Islam may join National Student Power, and Shahadat Hossain and SM Sweet may receive central positions in NCP.
NCP Joint Convener Monira Sharmin said the party welcomes reform-minded individuals from different ideologies to strengthen the organization.
Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing regarding Ishaq Sarkar possibly joining the party in the future.
Analysts say NCP is trying to strengthen its organizational base by bringing leaders from different groups together.
