The administration of Khulna University (Khulna Uni) has taken disciplinary actions against 19 students for allegations of ragging, fighting, drug use and trade, assault on teachers, religious defamation, and other misconduct. Among them, 12 students have been permanently expelled.

This disciplinary decision was made at the 27th meeting of the University Disciplinary Board held on October 9, based on the investigation committee's report. Professor Dr. Najmus Sadat, Director of Student Affairs, confirmed the matter on Wednesday, October 15.

According to the official order, the punishments vary according to the nature and severity of the offenses, including permanent expulsion, temporary suspension, financial fines, and submission of undertakings with guardians.

Notably, Md. Mobarak Hossain Noman, a Master’s student of the Bengali discipline, was permanently expelled for allegedly assaulting a teacher over a mango dispute. His degree certificate was annulled, and he was banned from campus entry for life. However, due to his unconditional apology, the annulment of his certificate has been temporarily suspended on humanitarian grounds. The decision has sparked mixed reactions among students, with many seeing it as an excessive exercise of authority by the university administration against otherwise innocent students over a minor incident.

In another case of campus fighting, Md. Zahidul Islam, a Master’s student of the Law discipline, was permanently expelled. Two other students from the same discipline, Meheraf Hossain Rabbi and Aminul Ehsan, were ordered to submit undertakings with their guardians in accordance with the university’s code of conduct.

Hasan Hawladar from the Economics discipline and Aminul Islam from the Mass Communication & Journalism discipline were permanently expelled for drug use and trade.

Md. Rasel Sheikh, from Mass Communication & Journalism, was permanently expelled for posting content deemed disrespectful to religion on social media, while his peer, Tonoy Ray, from the same discipline, was expelled for two years for the same allegation.

K.M. Rauful Alam Arnab, a Mathematics student, was suspended for six months for ragging. Other students involved—Md. Rimon Mia, Ahsan Habib, and Md. Salman Hossain—were fined BDT 5,000 each and required to submit undertakings with guardians. Bablu Akter Durjoy, Rashed Khan Menon, and Bandhan Ray from Mathematics were suspended for six months over allegations of abusive language and death threats.

Md. Umar Faruk and Sadman Uddaul, students of the Education discipline, were suspended from academic activities for the current term due to fighting incidents. Moniruzzaman Riyad from the Business Administration discipline and Ziad Al Sams from Education were each fined BDT 5,000.
