BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia may be taken to London for advanced medical treatment late tonight (Thursday) or early Friday morning. Her personal physician, Dr. Zahid Hossain, confirmed the matter to journalists at the Evercare Hospital premises before 3 p.m. on Thursday (December 4).

Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital for the past 12 days. According to family sources, her physical condition remains unchanged. This has caused concern among the political community as well as the general public across the country.

Hospital sources said that a medical board led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder, consisting of both local and foreign specialists, is overseeing her treatment. According to a BNP source, complications caused by a lung infection have slightly improved, but her heart-related complications persist. Other health issues also remain largely unchanged.

Last night, four specialist doctors arrived in Dhaka from China to join the medical board. Earlier in the day, specialist physician Richard Belle arrived from the United Kingdom, and he went straight from the airport to Evercare Hospital to assess Khaleda Zia’s condition. The doctors have also reviewed her latest medical reports.

It is noteworthy that Khaleda Zia also traveled to London for advanced treatment earlier this year. She received care at a hospital there and later stayed at her son Tarique Rahman’s residence for continued treatment. She returned to Bangladesh on May 6 after nearly four months.

Khaleda Zia was taken to Evercare Hospital on the night of November 23 after she suddenly experienced breathing difficulties. Although she was admitted following the detection of a lung infection, her condition worsened last Sunday at dawn, prompting her transfer from the SDU to the CCU.
