Expressing concern over the spread of malnutrition among children and the ongoing fuel crisis in the country, Islamic Movement Bangladesh has urged the government to take quick and effective measures. In a statement on Wednesday, the party’s Joint Secretary General and spokesperson, Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman, conveyed this appeal.

Led by Pir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim of Charmonai, the party stated that the number of children affected by malnutrition is rising at an alarming rate, and there have been cases of death due to this preventable disease. They noted that such deaths indicate deficiencies in the state’s management.

The statement emphasized that merely strengthening vaccination programs is insufficient; necessary medical treatment must also be ensured for children already affected. Urgent initiatives in the health sector are essential to control the rapidly spreading disease.

Meanwhile, the party also expressed concern about the fuel crisis. They claimed that despite the government’s statements, fuel shortages are evident at the field level. Long queues are forming at pumps across the country, and coastal fishermen are unable to go fishing due to fuel scarcity.

The statement further mentioned that in coastal areas such as Khulna, Barguna, and Shariatpur, many fishing families are facing a livelihood crisis. Although the global context acknowledges the fuel shortage, swift and effective measures by the government are necessary to mitigate its impact. The party also urged the government to ensure a separate fuel supply arrangement for fishermen. They warned that failure to provide timely support before the upcoming ban season could exacerbate the financial hardship of the fishermen.
