Staff Reporter | PNN:

Top officials from the interim government advised Information and Broadcasting Advisor Mahfuz Alam and Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan to resign in mid-September. However, they have expressed a desire to take more time, according to government sources.

It has been reported that Mahfuz Alam has not yet expressed an interest in participating in the upcoming national elections, but he wants to remain in government. On the other hand, Asif Mahmud plans to resign before the election schedule is announced, although no final decision has been made yet.

These two advisors are said to have close ties with the National Citizen Party (NCP). NCP leaders have claimed that during the formation of the government, names for the advisory council were taken from various political parties. They argue that asking only student representatives to step down is not an acceptable decision.

Additionally, NCP leaders have raised allegations that some advisors in the government are involved in conspiracies. Jamaat-e-Islami leader Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has also spoken out on the matter. Meanwhile, author and researcher Mohiuddin Ahmed stated, "Such statements could harm the image of the government and Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus, and could create doubts among the public about the government's neutrality."

NCP leaders have said that various statements about the interim government's advisory council have sparked political discussions, especially with BNP demanding the removal of their party members from the advisory council.

In this situation, Mohiuddin Ahmed has advised that the student advisors should either resign or announce that they will not participate in the elections and that they have no ties with the NCP.
