Even after defeating Pakistan for the ninth time to win the Asia Cup, the Indian cricket team faced an awkward situation during the trophy presentation. Following their 5-wicket victory in the final held in Dubai on Sunday, India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav and his teammates publicly refused to accept the trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board and Asian Cricket Council chairman Mohsin Nakvi. Subsequently, Nakvi left the stadium himself with the trophy and medals.
BCCI Secretary Debjit Shukla stated that Nakvi’s behavior was unsportsmanlike, and they will file a formal complaint with the ICC. Several controversies involving Nakvi had surfaced throughout the Asia Cup, including handshake disputes and mocking videos targeting Indian supporters.
India’s win in the final came thanks to batting performances from Kuldeep Yadav and Tilak, but the trophy controversy overshadowed the joy of their victory.
