An HSC candidate accused under the Pornography Control Act has taken his first exam from inside prison. Authorities at Cumilla Central Jail arranged a special examination center within the prison premises to accommodate the student. The nationwide Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations began today, Thursday, June 26, 2025, with the Bangla First Paper.
Jail Superintendent Abdullahil Al Amin confirmed the development. He stated that the examinee, Abdullah Al Mamun, son of Mizanur Rahman of Pombaish village, Bogura upazila, Cumilla district, is a regular student of Adda College in Barura upazila. He has been in custody since June 16 under Sections 8(1), 8(2), and 8(3) of the Pornography Control Act.
Superintendent Al Amin said, "Upon receiving a formal application and a court order, arrangements were made to conduct his HSC examination inside the prison. He was also provided with books to continue his studies." Mamun is registered under the Cumilla Education Board.
He added, "Question papers and answer sheets were supplied from the designated exam center, and necessary security and support were provided throughout the examination."
According to the Cumilla Education Board, a total of 101,750 students are appearing for this year's HSC examination from the districts of Cumilla, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Laxmipur, and Brahmanbaria under its jurisdiction.
