After a prolonged deadlock lasting 45 days, Administrator Shahjahan Mia returned to his office at Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) headquarters, Nagar Bhaban, on Thursday, June 26, 2025, and officially resumed his duties. His return is expected to restore normalcy to citizen services that had remained largely suspended since May 14.
Upon entering Nagar Bhaban, Shahjahan Mia held a brief conversation with members of the media from his office. He directed all DSCC officials and employees to regularly attend office and carry out their duties as per standard procedure. Emphasizing firm control, he assured that "there will be no further disorder at Nagar Bhaban in the future."
Earlier, on Sunday, June 22, DSCC’s main headquarters had partially reopened after 40 consecutive days of closure, allowing limited resumption of services.
The administrative paralysis began amid protests by BNP activists and certain DSCC staff, who were demanding that Ishraque Hossain be appointed as the elected mayor of the city. The political turmoil caused severe disruption to public services, leaving citizens frustrated and helpless.
It is worth noting that on February 13, 2025, the government appointed Md. Shahjahan Mia, Additional Secretary of the Local Government Division, as the Administrator of DSCC. Prior to this, he served as an Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce. His return to duty and restoration of order at Nagar Bhaban signals a much-needed relief for Dhaka residents.
