An elderly man named Abdus Sobahan (60) was allegedly hacked to death due to prior enmity in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj. The incident took place late Sunday night in Dattapara Elongjani village under Lahiripara Mohonpur Union. His wife was also seriously injured while trying to protect him.

The deceased Abdus Sobahan was a former manager of a local dairy producers’ association. He was the son of late Shukur Ali of the village.

Local sources said there had been a long-standing dispute between two groups over a mosque pond in the village. This is believed to be the reason behind the murder.

Family members claim they had been receiving threats to withdraw a previous murder case related to the same dispute in which the victim’s son was killed three years ago.

The daughter of the deceased, Sabina Khatun, alleged that attackers entered the house at night and hacked her father to death with sharp weapons.

During the attack, his wife Shefali Khatun was also injured while trying to save him and was later taken for treatment.

Locals detained a person named Haidul Islam with blood-stained clothes and handed him over to police.

Police said they recovered the body and are investigating the incident, which is believed to be a result of previous enmity. Additional police have been deployed to maintain order in the area.
