Another gas explosion occurred in the Fatullah area of Narayanganj, leaving four members of the same family critically burned. The incident happened early Monday morning in Kutubpur Rakhibazar area near Shibu Market. The injured were rescued and admitted to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in the capital.
The injured are rickshaw driver Abdul Qader (50) and his three sons Mehedi (17), Sakib (16), and Rakib (16). Although their home is in Matlab upazila of Chandpur, they had been living in a rented house in Fatullah for a long time.
According to locals, around 6:30 am on Monday, a loud explosion shook the area. Residents rushed to find the house’s doors and windows damaged and the family members severely burned inside. They were quickly taken to the hospital.
Neighbor Md. Faruk said that at the time of the incident, Abdul Qader and his sons were sleeping. The mother had gone বাইরে to fetch water. It is suspected that gas had accumulated inside the house.
Hospital sources said Abdul Qader suffered burns over a large portion of his body. Two of his sons have also suffered damage to their respiratory tracts. Doctors said all four are in critical condition and are under intensive care.
Dr. Shaon bin Rahman said the victims have severe burn injuries in multiple parts of their bodies, and breathing complications have also developed due to the explosion.
Fire Service and Civil Defence visited the scene after the incident. Officials from Hajiganj Fire Station initially suspect that gas leaked from the Titas gas line and accumulated inside the closed house. The explosion likely occurred when a match or lighter was struck.
Earlier on Saturday, another gas explosion in Fatullah injured five people, including a child. Repeated incidents have created panic among locals, who are demanding improved safety and regular inspection of gas lines.
