NCP announces 100 candidates for local government elections, second phase on May 20

The National Citizens Party (NCP) has announced candidates for 100 upazilas and municipalities in the upcoming local government elections.

In the first phase, the party finalized candidates for 67 upazila chairmen and 33 municipal mayor posts. A second list of 100 candidates will be announced on May 20.

The announcement was made at a press conference at the party’s temporary office in Banglamotor.

Local government election committee chairman Sarwar Alam said the party aims to strengthen its organizational base through local elections.

He said over 1,000 applications were received, and 100 candidates were selected after screening.

The party also stated that credible individuals from other parties can join as candidates if they have no criminal allegations.

Analysts say this move is part of the party’s strategy to strengthen its presence ahead of national politics.
