Amid ongoing changes in vice-chancellors at various public universities, discussions have started about administrative changes at National University as well. According to sources in the Ministry of Education, the process of appointing a new pro-vice chancellor is almost complete, and there are also rumors of a possible change in the vice-chancellor post.
Sources say Dr. Mohammad Ali Jinnah has been finalized as the new pro-VC. He is currently a professor at the Institute of Education and Research of Dhaka University. Additionally, a professor from the Faculty of Arts at Dhaka University is being considered for the VC position.
An official from the Ministry of Education said that CVs of potential candidates for several universities have been reviewed and a shortlist has been prepared. After approval from the Prime Minister, appointment notifications will be issued.
However, the current Vice-Chancellor of National University, Professor ASM Amanullah, has denied rumors of his removal, saying he is continuing his duties. He indicated that a new pro-VC may join but clarified that it should not be interpreted as a VC change.
Officials say the government is gradually making changes in leadership across several public universities to improve governance and academic quality. Recently, vice-chancellors were appointed in nine universities in a single phase, and changes were also made at Dhaka University.
